Our guest house is located in the beautiful town of St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

St Francis Bay is the jewel of the Garden Route and is situated approximately one hour from Port Elizabeth. It is the ideal place to start your journey into the incredible Garden Route or to come and relax and enjoy the wonders of St Francis Bay and surrounding areas.

A range of outdoor activities is in abundance for the adventurous. Beautiful cycle paths, amazing routed scenic walks, SUPping, surf ski, renowned surf breaks, kite surfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, spearfishing and fishing.

Restaurants & Bars

The St Francis Village and surrounds offers excellent cuisine including fresh fish, local calamari, superb steaks, Greek food, curries, sushi, pizzas and fine dining.
The choices are excellent.

What makes us unique?

Although we are situated directly on the canals we are still very centrally situated and most restaurants and shops are within walking distance to our guest home.

Privacy for Guests

All rooms are outside the main home providing private entrances and privacy to guests. Our beautiful guest house is situated directly on the St Francis canal.

Book a Canal Cruise

Canal cruises are available directly from the guest house with optional sundowners and cheese platters at an additional cost.

Braai & Pizza Oven

At Hartley house, we have a protected patio area with a braai and pizza oven for guest use.

Activities for the Whole Family

We offer a variety of activities for you and the whole family. Bikes, surfboards, fishing gear and surf skis are available for guests to hire.

Breakfast Vouchers

Vouchers for breakfast are included in rates so that guests may have the opportunity to adventure out and try the fantastic cuisine on offer in St Francis.

We are a Spanish family living in South Africa and we decided to spend our Christmas holidays at Hartly House.
We couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. The location is perfect both within the Saint Francis area and also as a gateway to visit the entire coast around. It has everything you need to relax, play sports and enjoy the beauty of the canals and their surroundings. A success without a doubt.

Hartley House is paradise itself! The place is great, very clean, comfortable and has everything you need. Hartley House was also very accommodating since the beginning, available at all times whenever I had any questions. It is at a perfect location, very easy to get around and within walking distance to awesome restaurants and shops. Great all-rounder and value for money! Totally recommend it. Cannot wait to be back!
